Dr. Katheryn Whittaker (she/her) is a bilingual (English and Spanish) senior psychotherapist, chartered psychologist with over 20 years of post-qualified experience in mental health and substance use. She also worked extensively as a Marital & Family Therapist and Clinical Counselor in both residential and outpatient settings before moving to the Cayman Islands.
Originally from California USA, Dr. Whittaker has served in senior level clinical roles including program director within the mental health and addiction sectors, both within private and government settings. Dr Whittaker has a rich background in addiction and rehab, and she used to lead clinical programs in residential services and community outreach sectors, providing supervision to therapists and students in training; as well as advising board-level operations to improve service delivery and clinical excellence. Through her senior roles in various clinical settings, Dr. Whittaker has become an expert in care coordination, healthcare reform, service integration, and the development of training and supervision programmes for improving the quality of care and adherence to evidence-based practice.
Dr Whittaker is a dynamic therapist who specializes in complex trauma, abuse/trauma survivors, interpersonal communication/ relational difficulties, complex mental health difficulties, and prevention of relapse. Over the years, she has developed staff and intervention programmes based on her variety of training in:
- Infra-Low Frequency Neurofeedback
- Solution Focused Therapy
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy intensive training
Dr Whittaker has presented locally and internationally and lectures for the University College of the Cayman Islands in the Department of Social Sciences. She is also fluent in Spanish.
